Impaired Glucose Tolerance
and Diabetes
More and more Australians are now being diagnosed with impaired
glucose tolerance (IGT) or diabetes. Of great concern is that what
was once an old person's disease, is now appearing in relatively
young or middle aged individuals. It can be a frightening prospect,
especially when there is a plethora of confusing information around,
along with the threat of numerous long term side effects if blood
glucose levels are not controlled.
As accredited practicing dietitians, we pride ourselves on keeping
up to date with the current treatments and management for IGT and
diabetes, and will help to clarify all the confusion. This incudes
an explanation of the Glycaemic Index and Glycaemic load. We also
have specialised information for those who may be pregnant, need
to lose weight, or have high cholesterol / blood fat levels in addition
to IGT/diabetes.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects
approximately 5-10% of pre-menopausal women. This results in disruptions
to the menstrual cycle, failure to ovulate normally, an increased
risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We
have developed some nutritional strategies to assist in managing
body weight and insulin resistance.
Heart Disease
With guidelines for ideal cholesterol levels becoming tighter, and
the earlier detection of elevated blood fats or blood pressure more
prominent, now is the time to get your health under control and
prevent heart attacks and strokes. We can provide you with specialised
advice to manage your cholesterol levels, triglycerides and blood
pressure through a combination of diet and exercise management.
